I'll admit that the fact that no one has come up with a better solution than violent rebellion in over 200 years does make me more than a bit melancholy. I may not be smart enough to see a way out of this nonsense, but I hope we can figure out how to do it with words and not weapons this go around.

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."-Declaration of Independence (1776).

You'd think, but if anyone in a prior congress had that thought, they kicked that can down the road to future generations.
Still, while it may not be in the Constitution, we need only look at the founders earlier work for what they considered the solution to a failure of representative government:

"Temu Dilbert" would have me laughing if any of the rest of this were remotely funny. Going to remember that insult for (hopefully) brighter days.

This has always been possible. "Checks and balances" between "co-equal branches" only exist if all 3 branches are functional. Any two branches collude, the whole thing comes apart. Congress has slowly yielded power to the executive for at least 50 yrs. Only a matter of time before a prez tried this.

I honestly feel bad for you and other younger, idealistic, progressive politicians waking up to realize that much of the older core of the Democratic establishment is just as deeply in bed with the same interests that drive the Republicans. We need more young progressives elected to the Senate too!

I've got to be honest: I came for the books, I stayed for the burritos. A man brave enough to put just about anything in a tortilla when making a burrito has my respect and is definitely worth a follow.

I mean I could think of 3 others immediately. Sadly they're too busy occupying the roles of President, Vice President, and that expired cheeto we all forgot rolled under the couch.

Wasn't that by design though? I've always taken the whole point of reddit to be that if you don't like a subreddit, make your own.

It was never about religion. Not really; not in the sense they claim of "saving souls." It was - in the way it always is with religious fights - about proving their superiority over the Other and reinforcing their power over them.

Is that what happened though, or did the other side stay home thinking they had a slam dunk?🤔🤔🤔

I mean hey - a win is a win, but don't mistake the utter laziness (and stupidity) of the opposing side for the incredible strength of your own. Looking at the national popular results it was real close.
