Well it’s hard to quantify lack of progress so it’s difficult to see, but not normalizing a horrific regime rather than granting it your tacit endorsement does have an impact.

There was the flesh-pink Miata racing around the parking lot.
There was the woman employee who took my hot dog (don’t judge me) because “IT’S NOT READY!”
There were over-sugared kids weaving their way through all of this.

There was the lovely black grandma asking me where I got the short cans of Pringles because here grandkids wanted the expensive tall cans.
There was the guy getting chased out by the staff because he’d obviously transgressed sometime in the past.
There was the man loudly complaining about hot sauce

I’m old enough to have written programs I copied to cassette tape. It’s the same sound.

I just had the most amazing 5 minute experience at a 7 Eleven it’s almost impossible to quantify. There was so much happening at once I couldn’t keep track. It was glorious.

I think I know you well enough to know that when it comes to accepting checks from people who fund terrorism and have journalists hacked to death with bone saws you’d decline.
That’s the only standard that matters.

Everything I like about every other culture’s food is merely an echo of what Thai does on a slow Tuesday.

I grew up surrounded by fantastic Pacific Island, Mexican, and Italian food. Oddly, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, French, and German were completely alien to me and I only discovered Earth’s perfect food- Thai- in adulthood.

Growing up in San Diego was a fantastic place to experience food from a wide variety if cultures. Obviously Mexican food was a huge part of our diet, but most people don’t know San Diego had a massive Italian population after WW II.

My mom was a nurse in San Diego who later became a director of nursing and the majority of nurses in the area were women who married sailors in the Philippines. They taught her how to cook adobo and we always had a freezer full of lumpia.

That’s because lumpia is a perfect food.

Found a local place that serves my favorite childhood foods and I’m thrilled that our kid has tried them and loved them too.
Nothing better than some pork adobo, lumpia, and pancit.

I appreciate that. I love redesigning costumes but story-wise it doesn’t make sense to do a Starfire redesign right now. if the opportunity presents itself before my run on the book ends I’ll embrace it happily but I don’t foresee it happening.
