You probably haven't heard of this one. It's pretty good.

I played the version of this released for iPhone and it is, far and away, the best game I have on my phone. Absolutely perfect for that "just gonna do one more quick run".

Since I've mentioned it twice in descriptions of other games, I might as well put it on the list proper. Another "you already know this one", but hey, it's good, it's known for a reason. Amazing aesthetic and great deductive puzzle design.

One of the very first post-Obra Dinn deduction games; I think I like Roottrees better overall but Golden Idol is a great bite-sized version of the concept, giving you a bunch of smaller puzzles to solve rather than one big one

(another "check the content warnings" one)
The most Catholic game ever made. A great combat-focused Metroidvania. I honestly didn't find it as hard as its reputation made it out to be, but it's still very hard and very worth playing if that's your thing

Hey, speaking of. Another "felt almost too obvious" one, you've heard of Stardew Valley, you know what it is. If you somehow haven't, it's the best Harvest Moon-like ever made and that's including the actual Harvest Moon games.

One of the many "cozy life game" types of games that followed in Stardew Valley's success, but I think with a unique enough premise that it works on its own. It does a great job of tying all of its various elements together into something cohesive

This is a bit of a borderline one as well - it was indie when it was made but Introversion sold the IP to Paradox a while ago. A very interesting management sim that raises a lot of ethical questions without hammering you over the head with it.

I'm not sure if this is "indie" exactly; it's another one where it comes from an era where the concept didn't really exist, but it was a "budget" title in its day which was kind of the same idea. A goofy, janky strategy game about spooking some dumb humans

This one's already in the news because of Ontos but I thought I'd mention it anyway, it took me ages to get around to Soma and I don't know why I waited so long, it's excellent. Really solid character writing and an overall horrifying situation to explore

A completely different kind of game from the devs of Void Stranger. It made me mad how good it was because I don't even like shmups and got really tilted at ZeroRanger and yet after I was done I was like "aw dammit that was actually really good"

Yet another "more going on than what it seems like on the surface" game (that's a bit of a theme for me). Tunic has so many secrets hidden in plain sight that you will think you're done and find an entire category of new puzzle you never noticed before.

A cool action RPG/deck builder hybrid, where basically the cards you play are used to seed the "dungeon" you'll be exploring. That's not a great description but it's a very unique game, worth checking out.

"38 posts in and you haven't even mentioned Disco fucking Elysium yet?"
Look I wasn't sure I was going to mention it at all, it feels too obvious, but I already put Outer Wilds on here so it would be hypocritical to leave it out. Play Disco Elysium

Sticking with the "classic Roguelike" theme, Cataclysm is a less objective driven, more sandboxy survival Roguelike with a ridiculous amount of stuff in it. There are a bunch of fan forks if the base game seems like something you'd like but isn't exactly what you're looking for

I have not played Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for several versions, so the current version is quite a bit different from my last experience with it, but it was a game I sunk many, many hours into back in the day. Another classic Roguelike, albiet a bit more modern than NetHack

Darkest Dungeon is the horror-themed survival dungeon crawler against which others are compared. The sequel is good too, but I still kind of prefer the framing of the original.

This is an odd one, since it's a mod rather than a game, but it's such an extensive mod that it got its own dang store page on GOG. Base game STALKER/Anomaly is itself a strong recommend from me but the way GAMMA adds to it, it makes it into a whole new game.
