Today I learned that the Christian king of the Congo, in 1526, sent a letter to his brother in Christ the king of Portugal BEGGING him to stop allowing Portuguese merchants to take African slaves. He asked instead of merchants to send more priests, and flour and wine for the Eucharist.

Good God.

Still having some vestigial customs doesn't mean the church has power. Church weddings are way down across the board. And from this graph, it looks like Europe is on average 70% secular - and most of the minority will likely be religious immigrants.
