Well, Michael, you’ve given me hope that strangers can come together with diverse opinions and not exit conversations as enemies. I do hope that peace wins the day, I have my doubts, but I will continue to hope for it over further bloodshed. Thanks for the talk, your perspective has informed my own.

But I also believe it is reductive to say peace is the only option because then who becomes the arbiter of that peace when it is entirely subjective? We are all unreliable narrators pushing self-interests, so who then is positioned to step in to mediate peace?

No, I am not in favor of deploying the Munich analogy to justify a carte blanch aggressive foreign policy. I do believe that it is reductive to say that is the only lens to use in our assessment of aggressive expansionists. I would much rather live in a world where endless wars are not being waged.

Also, until you’ve experienced your women, children, neighbors, friends and family hiding in fear in basements and then being gunned down by foreign invaders in the dark, I don’t think any of us have the right to use words like “we get it” because we certainly do not.

I’m confused by what you’re suggesting. In your reality, Ukraine should just give up? Surrender to Russia? You believe Putin will become some of paragon of peace with a sliver of the land he set out for? I wonder what historical examples could we draw upon where appeasement didn’t work out so well 🤔
