The CFL are now historic and one day I will put together a display as they came in a huge variety of coils, loops and twists.
Even got a couple of rare ones that had coloured tubes.

Ordinary light bulbs came in a corrugated cardboard sleeve and held in place by a cardboard inset that had a hole for the bayonet.
These came in full colour printed boxes. Premium packing for what was an expensive lamp but longer life and lower power.

It was a first generation CFL so obviously improved. The weight was due to a coil of wire round a block of steel plates.
A magnetic ballast that limited the current.
Later CFL use electronics to limit the current

The base contains a current limiting resistance and it is a neon discharge lamp.
Multiple lamps within a reflector the shape of letters were used in illuminated signs but the tube style was more common from late 1920's

How many flags?
Are you after a full set plus those in the message?
Or are you just wanting a full set plus the few extras to make the message.
I have no idea how big a signal flag is or what type of fabric it is.

I recall the two Soham primary schoolgirls who went missing and the Sunday Times newspaper reported that they were abducted after being online with a paedophile the day before.
Total misinformation when the caretaker was later convicted of their murder. But headlines sell papers

Curiosity!
Online databases can be searched by anyone (if not behind a paywall) So a few keywords can reveal the original source and then questions arise about relationships between different factors. And a healthy skepticism about the source and human nature.

For this wannabe historian reader of your post could you expand upon professional training in historical research.
Do you mean academic study of history or database interrogation?
