Methane is hard to detect, it’s colorless and odorless. Many emissions are unintentional leaks, unplanned releases. Historically under-measured; satellites are only recently improving detection, contributes to ground-level ozone, which worsens asthma and lung disease. We’re doing something about it!

CH4 - the 2nd-most important anthropogenic greenhouse gas after CO2, methane has a much higher warming potential, roughly 28× CO₂ over 100 years and even higher over 20 years, responsible for around 30% of the global temperature ⬆️ since the Industrial Revolution.

Because CH4 is so potent (albeit short-lived) reducing methane emissions is one of the most effective short-term strategies to slow the rate of global warming quickly. Significant cuts now would have a rapid and noticeable impact on reducing near-term warming! #onit #climateaction #doingourpart
