For the launch of Windows 8 (2012), Microsoft & RGA designed the “Times Square Takeover”: for 3 days, on 39 screens, the famous New York intersection showcased the new OS. Visitors could test devices on the ground, with their content beamed to some of the massive 39 displays. 🤩

If Windows ever had an identity crisis, it was Windows NT 3.1 build 196. Compiled in September 1991, the CD for this build featured 3 different logos, & the build itself identifies in various places as either NT 1, NT 32-bit Windows, NT-386, NT Windows or Windows NT Version 3. 😵‍💫

Help was an app where users could get help on how to use Windows. Introduced in Windows 3 (1990), it was renamed the Help & Support Centre in Windows Millennium Edition (2000). It was discontinued in Windows 10 (2015), where a new Tips app provided similar functionality. 💡

The Windows XP (2001) System Properties dialog refers to the OS as “Version 2002”. According to Steve Sinofsky, the year number was meant to help OEMs & tech support more easily differentiate Windows versions, with 5 releases in the period 1998-2001 alone (98, 98 SE, 2000, ME & XP). 😵‍💫
