We're running blue on the blog today, a third report from the #Borefts Beer Festival: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2025/10/a-wi...
Azvex Scoop, a bright blue beer, being poured.

I have an automatic internal find-replace: when someone says "challenging" I hear it, correctly I believe, as "difficult". Difficulty is a weird taboo.

"Potemkin Disneyland" is a great name for a pastry stout.

Focussing in on the dark and luscious offerings at #Borefts 2025, on the blog today: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2025/10/any-...
Hill Farmstead The Birth of Tragedy porter.

I think they put a lot of stake in their proprietary wild yeast blend, and I just don't like what it does.

On the blog this week, my notebook and I head to the #Borefts Beer Festival, for one last round of fine international beers: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2025/10/the-...
Punters at Borefts 2025, including @cagarvie.bsky.social, of course.

It's a style we don't see enough of.

My beer of the weekend, not that you asked, was WhiteField Irish Stout.

This evening's expertly curated food and drink pairing is Bombay & Tonic with licking the chilli spatula.
A G&T next to a pan of chilli being stirred.

I wouldn't disbelieve that.
thebeernut.bsky.social
I would guess it's pretty distinctive. It doesn't taste like Irish stout.

We are not to know. "Brewed in the UK."

I reckon Aldi called their stout "Mulligan's" because it makes you want to have a second go at pouring it. State of this.
A glass of poured nitrogenated stout with a too-large head.

Finishing off this week's blog posts about Germany with some Helles, some Kellerbier, and an unexpected lambic: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2025/10/not-...
Tilquin Abricot-Rhubarbe lambic.

They don't have a Mild Signal on the roof of The Silver Penny (yet) so you'll have to make do with this skeet.
Hook Norton Pick Me Up dark mild, now on sale at The Silver Penny JDW Wetherspoon, Abbey Street, Dublin.

Yeah, they've done a good job on the place.

Running a bit warm in this weather, but not bad for a fiver. And they'll throw you in a sparkler debate for free.
The handpump in Tapped/Harty's, currently pouring Brehon Stony Grey IPA. A pint of Stony Grey with a thick white head.

They're on the waiting list for a nosebag.

Oh, and there's a charming little pub called Kater 26, which pours Pilsner Urquell from Lukr taps.

Agree on Brauhaus Bönnsch: nice, but a bit sterile. The Paulaner Salavator Wirtshaus has a great schnitzel menu. And I liked Gasthaus im Stiefel, up the street from the Beethoven house. It has Kostritzer on tap.
