Attorney. Spoonie. Tired most of the time. Criminal justice, disability & autoimmune disease, cats, Dodgers, hopefully something positive every now and then. He/him. Hopes to make sense of all this eventually, but probably won’t.

Oh, I think it’s just ‘cause they’re so well funded by billionaires who should be investigated immediately that they don’t need anymore money. They’re the first political organization ever to just, you know, have enough.
thebystander99.bsky.social
I’m a little encouraged, because I think the fact that he’s talking about health care and money together at all, and trying to make sense out of nonsense, shows he knows how badly he’s losing
thebystander99.bsky.social
And, like you said, all to create easy sound bytes that are super effective in creating misconceptions and incredibly difficult to mitigate once people accept them

It’s just so insane. People disputing completely unsupported claims aren’t just “critics”—especially when one of them is an OR federal judge who made factual findings on the record in a court order. Presenting this as a “there’s just no way to know who’s telling the truth” thing is maddening
thebystander99.bsky.social
Comey’s face is appropriately squiggly with consternation for someone who’s been indicted like he had. Lemons’s twang appears to have put a spring in his step; big day for him. The judge is, understandably, daydreaming of butterflies
thebystander99.bsky.social
Totally—there’s such a disconnect, like how, with that case, various people (including Melania) were making statements that the Mar-a-Lago search was “unreasonable” because it was *of their home* [sniffle]! All contradicted by the giant chasm b/w what they say publicly and what they argue in court
thebystander99.bsky.social
You’d think maybe if some of these people went to law school—and even served as a state attorney general (like, I don’t know, Josh Hawley)—they’d have read a case about pen registers and know that call logs aren’t protected by the 4th Amendment, even without a subpoena…

Help…

Is it just me, or have pants gotten very strange all of a sudden?
thebystander99.bsky.social
I guess he doesn’t remember the pin register case
thebystander99.bsky.social
Same! We’re trying to just up the insomnia tonight, apparently
thebystander99.bsky.social
Yep, I was a teenager and got my dad to take me to see it. We didn’t really know what to expect, and honestly, I still don’t think he’s fully recovered (or forgiven me)
thebystander99.bsky.social
Exactly. You know, I can’t help but see this as a parallel development to the end of the nationwide injunction. You can have the illusion of a remedy, but you have to go one violation at a time, and we all know you won’t have the time/money/capacity for that, so maybe you just let us take it all

Like please help this make sense

Kinda wanna throw Night of the Hunter out there. Doesn’t have a supernatural element, but it evokes for me a lot of the same eerie atmosphere as Picnic at Hanging Rock. The way it captures the desolation of Depression-era America, the creepiness of everything while they’re traveling down the river…

I wish I could like this post more than once, but unfortunately technology hasn’t progressed to that point yet

Watched a movie produced by Skydance tonight and happened to notice for the first time the logo isn’t really the sky dancing but more just appears to be the world getting incinerated, and I thought that was interesting

Oh, you know, I’ve been trying to pinpoint what particular variety of defeated energy she was radiating…and yeah, that’s definitely it

He’s modeling the kind of serenity I’m desperately looking for…
A white cat with an orange tail, and orange spots on his head and back, sleeps on a blue blanket. His big puffy head rests on his arm, and his tail curls around him, resting on his side.

Sure, just sue for damages if you’re injured. Just sue if you were detained without reasonable suspicion. Oh, btw, we’ll be arguing immunity from civil liability during an emergency; or there’s no jurisdiction over that kind of claim; or you need to prove an intentional 4th Am. violation; or

Your existence feels like an insurrection.

All your words are a terrorist attack.

Your standing on the sidewalk burns my cities to the ground.

My weak little heart will send the National Guard

Oh, got it—like an after-hours kind of thing? Like off-duty cops working private security at a party in the hills, or a nurse practitioner who gets a real estate license so they can flip houses? Like a CEO who also DJs?
thebystander99.bsky.social
Correct. In fact, she said ICE would be there and not to come unless you’re “law-abiding Americans who love this country.”

Which is weird, ‘cause I thought, if you’re law-abiding, you can go any public place you want to without an additional gov’t requirement to have specific thoughts or feelings

Earlier this week, Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski said agents would be in attendance during the big game.

I will die on the Sneakers soundtrack hill.

We’re not the first to get into it! Slate did a whole issue on the movie for its 20th anniversary, including this article on the soundtrack that talks about how people can’t agree on it. Otherwise, you can find me in my blissed-out Horner nostalgia haze
James Horner Is Known for His Titanic Score. But His Music for Sneakers Is a Masterpiece.
The first time I saw Sneakers in 1992, I was struck by its score. As a 12-year-old classical pianist and aspiring composer, I found myself captivated b ...
