My morning walk took me to the wharf. I was just in time to see a “raft” of sea lions, feasting on anchovies. They gather in a group because it’s an effective hunting strategy.

More pictures from the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. Although not as many as many sandhill cranes migrated this year, many others including Arctic snow geese made the trip. A bald eagle as well as other raptors hung out as well.

The Water Bar was THE place to be last night. Word got out. In addition to the brief inter-species meeting, an endangered, rarely seen species showed up and enjoyed a restorative libation... Last night was the first time that The Water Bar has been honored with a visit from a double-headed ungulate.

A couple of days ago there was a meeting at The Water Bar--individuals, representatives of 3 different species showed. It doesn't look like much was discussed though. Two of the guests are easily seen, but can you spot the third one who is silently observing?

I never realized that ladybugs huddle together. From what I’ve read, they do this for warmth and for safety from predators. When the morning sun touched and warmed them, they started to move and fly.
