![first, you need to install the updated PetzA: https://github.com/mnemoli/PetzA
then find where you installed the game, navigate to the Resource folder, and make a new folder called "palettes" (I believe it needs to be lowercase)
next, pick a palette! this part's a lot of fun. there's a huge repository of palettes made by the community here: https://phantasmagoriapetz.neocities.org/palettesite/palettes
pick your favourite, download it, and put the BMP file into the folder you just created
next, open up your petfile in LNZPro. this step cannot be done in PWS. click the + next to the word LNZ, then click "Adult". at the very top of the file, add a new line and write "[Palette]" without quotes. add another new line right beneath it and type the filename of the BMP you downloaded, but don't include the .BMP extension, save the petfile
open up the game, open the PetzA menu, open the settings, and make sure the option "enable palette swaps" is checked, otherwise you won't see a difference. then, bring out your pet and bask in the glory of their new colours!
note 1: this is how you change the palette on a pet that has already been adopted. if you want to change the palette of a breedfile, you can add the same lines into the adult LNZ to make it appear with the palette in the Adoption Center, but upon adopting a pet, the palette will not appear and you will have to edit the pet itself as well.
note 2: there is no way to change the palette that PWS uses, meaning that you may have to alter colours several times to get the desired result, since you'll only see the original palette while working. there is another hexing program called LNZLive that fixes this issue, but it is slightly harder to use since you have to write the LNZ yourself, it doesn't have all the fancy buttons and keyboard shortcuts that PWS has. PetzA got picked up by another community member at some point, and has received some updates. one of these is the ability to create new, custom palettes for your petz (doesn't change how the rest of the game looks) so if you want a different purple, I can walk you through using palettes!
