The State Road 3 closure in New Castle previously scheduled to begin on Monday, July 21, has been canceled.

Upon further review and coordination between INDOT, Milestone Contractors, and CenterPoint Energy, the gas line utility will not require a road closure for relocations near Trojan Lane.

Rabies Case Confirmed in Henry County, Indiana – Public Health Advisory
A live bat found in Baker Park on July 11 tested positive for rabies. The Henry County Health Department urges residents to vaccinate their pets against the rabies virus and keep their distance from local wildlife. No human or pet contacts with the rabid bat have been reported. Anyone who suspects they or their pets have had recent contact with a bat in Baker Park should reach out to the Henry County Health Department for a rabies risk assessment. For risk assessments, call (765) 521-7059 and choose Option #2 Local residents can take the following steps to prevent rabies: • Make sure to vaccinate pets against rabies • Do not feed, touch, or handle wild animals • Keep all pets, including dogs, cats and ferrets, indoors or on a leash • Keep your distance from any animal that looks sick or is acting strangely and report the case to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Fish & Wildlife Health Program at on.IN.gov/sickwildlife • Contact local animal control or law enforcement to remove stray animals from your neighborhood Rabies is a viral infection primarily spread in saliva through the bite of an infected animal. Three bats have tested positive for rabies in Indiana so far this year. Rabid bats have been found somewhere in the state every year since 1965. It’s not always possible to tell if an animal has rabies just by looking at it. The only way to know for sure is to have it tested. Animals with rabies typically act strangely, and some may be aggressive and try to bite people or other animals or act shy or be dull and unresponsive. Some rabid animals drool more than normal (“foaming at the mouth”), but this isn’t always the case. Members of the public should not approach or touch bats or any other wild animals, even those that appear healthy. Rabies in people is almost always fatal, but it can be prevented with prompt treatment after a bite. If you believe that you may have been exposed to rabies, immediately contact a healthcare provider.
