2010-2014 for me. New city, new beginnings. Bought our first house, got married. Job situations improved. Was still young and carefree, movies were directed right at my age cohort as was the local concert schedule. Pre kids, minimal responsibilities outside or normal grownups with jobs stuff.

I’ve been saying for a long time now if you’re a middle aged lover of HBO style prestige TV then Apple TV consistently has your number.

Tim Ryan was a good example of this. He lost by less in rural areas but ultimately lost. Which leads lefties to say see moderation doesn’t work but there’s also cynicism amongst those groups that suppresses turnout in those urban areas where they need to win big bc the candidate wasn’t pure enough

Yeah but we can’t survive as a nation of amnesiacs. Maybe they were too young to remember Trump 1.0 but society at large should have done a better job of making sure they knew the predictable toxicity of it all.

I think the policy is 20 years too late. The small towns and industries are already hollowed out by Wal-Mart culture and cheap goods. For better and worse everyone has adjusted to a new reality. It might have made sense when we were trying to save those things, but the ship has very much sailed.

Honest question for regular folks with 401K’s and investment accounts, do we bail? Take the hit and stash it somewhere else until the storm is over? I’m not smart enough to know.

While a modest concern overall, I never understood why anyone would vote to have to pay THIS MUCH attention to the news every single day. Spoken as a lifelong news/politics junkie. It’s oppressive

A lot of illusions about how things work have been shattered in my lifetime but I still truly believed than if someone tanked the economy on purpose there were powerful ppl with levers to pull who would not stand for it. Another pretty wild emperor (s) have no clothes moment

Trump’s main appeal always seemed to be the economy, not sure how low marks here don’t drag him lower overall.

I think some ppl are saying it because they want reassurance and for someone to refute them over and over again. I don’t do that, but I understand the sentiment. The rest are trolls, block away.

I agree, would probably like to see him run as Gov (don’t ask me why) but he or Tim Ryan would be my picks to try again for either office.

The bench in OH is pretty bleak. I could tell you who I think might have a shot at Senate or Governor but I’d prefer to hear thoughts from outsiders first.

What are they gonna do, crash the economy on purpose and Build Back Better? If we’re in a hole to start 26 I’m not sure slowly climbing out of it will matter much. Esp with such cruelty around how we got there.

Past crises always seem manageable in hindsight when you know the ending and that it turned out “ok”. Covid felt never ending but now seems relatively short. That’s dumbing things down and the effects are still being felt but it always feels different once you reach shore on the other side.

I’ve cancelled my sub for the last time and am deleting the app. Whatever the future looks like, I’m not interested in this. Someone else can have my dollars.

Would concur there. I normally consider it a bit of a lull but this year was way better. Hockey rules.
