Many colleagues are puzzled by my desire to retire asap. Part of my motivation is to get the hell away from this kind of infantile toxic behavior from grown men.

I was surprised when this gained no recognition from those who had dismissed me. If anything they doubled down on their ire and disdain.

I was frequently ranked at the bottom of my class and at the start of my career I think many dismissed me as irrelevant to my discipline. But I slowly built a solid corpus of original research and worked my way up from a POS Baptist college in Kansas to full prof at an R1.
