a self centered lil update post, but one I felt like making
Though I've finally been able to live on my own for an extended period of time with financial stability, this year has easily been the one where I've drawn the least, and just have had the least motivation or pull to it in recent memory. This, combined with a number of other uses of my leisure time that I felt I 'failed' at, like my frustrations with attempting gamedev, have made my feelings about myself as an artist complicated and ugly and kind of dour. I've had a lot of ideas that are exciting in the moment, but just haven't had the in-the-moment focus and energy to execute on them. (This, I recognize, is probably a discipline me-issue more than anything.) Alongside a new set of stressors regarding the financial/emotional security of my immediate family (god I hope my mom doesn't need to move in with me) and like every other person I'm following on bsky also going through it has made the year hard. I feel guilty for even percieving it this way, because I've been safe and secure and my friends have mostly been OK! But I suppose it's its own kind of tragedy to not fully enjoy myself when I do have the privilege of being financially secure. So art from me will probably be slow-going outside of small, incidental instances going into the new year. I've been very very hard on myself for about as long as I've been drawing, but I'm going to be taking a bigger focus on my physical health to try and make drawing more enjoyable just on its own if I can.
