In case you thought I was done, I am not. Tobio’s Hollow becomes the best spot for the Ancient Cistern. In the Japanese game, that location actually translates to Ancient Cavern, which objectively is exactly what it is. This is *chefs kiss* 👩🍳👌 good. Kloktos guarding a facility right over top of the

Ultimately though, this is still not quite right. We can see Eldin Volcano to the north-northeast outside the Sealed Grounds and to the northeast in Faron Woods. In reality the correct map is probably a mixture. The rough orientation of the correct and rotated map is very close,

If we look at an orientation accurate version of the Ocarina map, we can see that the rough path from the Temple of Time to the Kokiri Forest matches more closely with the rotated and corrected Skyward map.

To that end, we need to consider what the lore tells us too. The temple of time was built over the ruins of the sealed temple, specifically the temple of time in castle town in Ocarina of Time. It faces west to east, so let’s flip the corrected map to make that match.

To illustrate, here are the maps of Faron Woods and the underwater cave and the path you actually take to get the Ancient Cistern. You can probably spot the issue here. Ancient Cistern should be due west of the tree, not to the south west.

It doesn’t stop there though! The underwater cave leading to the Ancient Cistern is shown to the left of the dive point in Faron Woods. That’s not actually correct either. You enter the underwater serpentine cave under the platform. Faron’s Lair is actually directly beneath the Great Tree

The deep woods are shown as a northern turn on the official map. That cannot be though. For the same mountain to be visible in both maps means that the Deep Woods should be oriented heading west away from the Great Tree, not north.

Faron Woods isn’t much better here. To the south we can see the large mountain and the waterfalls slightly to the west there. The same mountain can be spotted from the deep woods. I’ve included the viewing angle from in-game. For those of you that know the map, you can see what’s happening here…
