🍞 Then we revisited our polished Bread and Butter for Reading — built collaboratively in a previous staff meeting.
Now enhanced with reading speed insights from:
@suchmo83.bsky.social & @timrasinski.bsky.social
Together, our Bread and Butter will help us sharpen how we teach and assess reading.

📚 CPD spotlight: we revisited our SDP priority — Words Words Words — led by our brilliant Assistant Head @
We began with
@emmaturner75.bsky.social ’s blog 'Curriculum is a Knife and Fork' — time to read, reflect, and discuss in mixed teams across the school.
theeducakers.bsky.social
We’re developing an Agreed Consistencies infographic — visual, quick-reference examples rooted in what we believe and how we teach @mrzachg.bsky.social
theeducakers.bsky.social
We then turned to 🎥 Great Teaching Unpacked from Steplab — focusing on Participation. @Mr_Raichura
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be concentrating fully on this one area of practice.
🎯 Do Less, Better — deep and deliberate @marymyatt.bsky.social
theeducakers.bsky.social
💬 Staff explored what’s already consistent, what needs refining, and how we move forward — together.
This isn’t “best practice guidance.” It’s a shared, positive expectation we’re committing to as a team.

INSET twilight with our teachers today — reflecting on the Agreed Consistencies we have & want.
We revisited key work from our SDP journey:
📘 Running the Room — @tombennett71.bsky.social
📗 Behaviour Manual — @strickomaster.bsky.social
📙 Rosenshine’s Principles — @teacherhead.bsky.social

The impact: fewer specialist placements needed until KS3 transfer, fewer EHCPs until KS3 transfer, children staying in mainstream alongside their peers plus many other pupils, pre-EHCNA, accessing the provision. Oh, and its £££ cheaper for the LA too. #earlyintervention
theeducakers.bsky.social
It's been a 3 year journey so far with persistent determination to work with the LA to find a local solution for our school context and our families.
We now have two specialist teachers and an array of therapies all on-site serving our children every day.
theeducakers.bsky.social
Well done to our specialist provision team who did a great job showcasing our offer for pupils with SEND to
@kennyinclusion.bsky.social on Monday.
Thanks too, Kenny, for you positive feedback and describing us as a "bright spot" when it comes to innovation and thinking differently about inclusion.

Our teaching and learning leader and our KS2 leader are both coming to join you next week. They’re really looking forward to it and we can’t wait to hear what they bring back.

Thanks to @mrzachg.bsky.social
for your great book Just Tell Them. Here's the snipped intro from our Monday briefing shared with all staff, including Governors, along with delivery two of the book for teachers. Love it! You're pretty funny too. 😉

Following the great success of our first session on rethinking practice in KS1, we are launching another opportunity. If you fancy coming along to see learning in action and talk deeply about all things EYFS/KS1, you are most welcome. Please book following the link below.

It’s the small nudges and constant references that keep our SDP priorities at the forefront of everyone’s minds.

Alongside this, we re-visited our Review & Respond (R&R) approach for our independent writing to ensure it is informing the next @janeconsidineedu.bsky.social unit of writing.

The twilight focused on one of our SDP priorities: Bread & Butter, Oysters & Champagne (inspired by @emmaturner06.bsky.social 's blog: Curriculum is a knife and fork ). Our writing lead worked with staff to unpick the essential elements of the writing/grammar framework for each year group.

Each week we share a Monday briefing (thanks to @mrallington.bsky.social ) with staff, designed to keep our SDP priorities high profile, purposeful and connected to CPD. This week’s briefing linked directly to last week’s twilight so that the messages remain clear and connected.

And this beauty just dropped through the letterbox to add to the collection. Another book of the series by Britta Teckentrump packed full of beautiful illustrations as well as fantastic information that is high quality. Can’t wait to dive into this one later!

This half term our Contexts for Learning are science based so we shared: Scientists are Saving the World by Saskia Gwinn. The children loved exploring how scientists help us, and the book is now proudly on display in the corridor for all to enjoy!
theeducakers.bsky.social
In Monday’s book-focused assemblies, we share a love of reading linked to science, school learning, current events – or sometimes just for the joy of a great book! 📚✨

Regular class reading isn’t just about enjoyment: it exposes children to rich vocabulary, develops comprehension, and builds shared cultural capital. We’ve made this a whole-school priority to ensure every child experiences the joy and power of reading.

Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their new class reader Crater Lake by Jennifer Killick. 📖✨
They have dedicated daily timetabled time to read and enjoy it together — it’s got pride of place in the classroom!

The real value comes when an experienced teacher talks through what’s happening and why. I’ll do that with them—but not every trainee gets that guidance.

So, how can we make these early experiences genuinely meaningful for future teachers? What advice would you give to new trainees? 🍰
