Charles Lindbergh a leader in the “American First” organization speaking on why the US should not be involved in WW2. There is whispers in the Nazi party membership that he will be the person to run as the leader of the Nazi party instead of Kuhn. This “American First” slogan is used today by MAGA.

“The classical end of all pure Democracy is the popular tyrant” “The tyrant must pose as the friend of the people as their champion against the rich” “They must be made to feel through him they are actually ruling” -Dorothy Thompson on Facist parties and the rise to power. This rhetoric is not new.

The “House Committee on Un-American Activities” was created to investigate Nazi groups however it is notable that most of the investigations centered around Communism. The same reason that Hoover refused to act on these groups prior. Even when the gov acted it still perpetuated Nazi fears around ⚒️

This idea of “Der Tog” or the day of insurrection where the facist party would take over the government seems very similar to January 6ths insurrection. It is also telling that Trump pardoned all of the people who perpetrated this insurrection.

Though an investigation was done by the FBI, Hoover didn’t want to crack down on American Nazi’s due to their anti-communist sentiments. This parallels with today’s right wing fear of “communists” in the MAGA movement and the Red scare ideology that pervades in the boomer generation that is MAGA.

Long Island and it’s connections to Facism. It’s also important to note that today LI has a large R population and Trump won both counties by 54% in Suffolk and 51% in Nassau.

The rise of “Patriotic Facsim” where Facism was cloaked in symbols of America. George Washington, Minute Men outfits, The American flag next to the swastica. Trying to blend American patriotic imagery and Facist ideology.

If you have time today please watch PBS’s documentary Nazi Town USA. It’s very informative and shows how this rise of Facism in the US is not a new phenomenon but a reimagining of 1930’s American Facist movement.
