She/Her. Pop culture analyst. I see you when you're posting. I know when you're a jerk. My job is to add some rationale and tell people to chill out.
That's always how I saw it, and while I enjoyed Star Wars well enough as a kid, as an adult, I much prefer Trek. But it's wild to me that I had a guy actually stop talking to me because I said I preferred Trek over Star Wars, nothing against the latter. Just not my fave. Boys are weird.

Well, most of the individuals making these absurd comments are like 18, so to them, a 41-year-old is old. They forget that they are not the target demographic.

Hester Street is such a gem. I recommend it whenever I speak about the difference between tangible and allegorical Jewish representation.

oh I'm well aware at how the industry, and the film and television ones work. And I understand the need for broad appeal. There's a lot of problems as to why people seem to think that stories featuring Jewish characters won't get attention. I'm also not giving up.

Nothing says we can't have a Batman Ragman Passover story.

And there is the other issue which is the increasing antisemitism in all fields, including publishing.

If there's interest among the editors, the least they can do is find ways to get Jewish stories incorporated into their existing books. But I guess that would require hiring Jewish staff to do so.

Fair enough. I will say, there is a market for it. Good Jewish stories, graphic or otherwise, are in demand. But its also just about good marketing too.

When I emailed Marvel about this the response wasn't, oh that'a a great idea...their response was "Oh did you see the Purimspiel comic from our Marvel Voices Pride issue." Like yes. It was great. It was one story of Jewish representation in a larger anthology... Can we have one for Jews. *Crickets*
