Decentralised data storage + interoperable protocols + more powerful vibe coding = each of us with more sovereignty to shape our own experience of the internet.

The days of using off-the-shelf platforms that exploit you may well be numbered!

What if technology didn’t feel so… hollow?

Some friends and I just released a manifesto about a world where tech leaves us feeling nourished (along with an evolving list of theses about how we can build it)

Technology should bring out the best in humanity, not the worst—a manifesto for resonant computing built on five principles that reject hyper-scale extraction for human flourishing.

Apparently the collective noun for a group of middle-aged men is a 'podcast'.

Ep. 6 features Ben Lehnert, former design leader at Microsoft and SAP. Can creative courage get us back on the path towards technology that serves us?

Silicon Valley's lost decade: consumer ceded to aggregators, software "innovation" meant SaaSy CRUD for some vertical niche. We forgot software could be anything else.

Infinite software means we can dream again.

High conviction tends to come from naivety or deep expertise. It's the bit in the middle that's hard - when the unknown unknowns become known

When you work for yourself there are many tradeoffs.

The most difficult is probably the financial reliability - no fixed paycheck landing in your account each month.

But getting to start my Monday morning with a surf with my wife is definitely a big tick in the positives column!

There's a new type of founder. A creative outsider. Equal parts artist and business person. As likely to direct a film as build another company.

Muses might include Charli XCX, Donald Glover, David Foster Wallace, AOC, Rick Rubin or even Larry David, over Bezos or Zuckerberg.

I have two modes of content consumption. In both I do the same thing - read the stuff, listen to the stuff, write notes on the stuff.

But in one mode I'm kicking to keep my head above water and in the other I feel like I could change the world.

Anyone else?

There's a new type of founder emerging.

As much artist as business person. Multi-disciplinary by nature. More likely to namecheck Charli XCX than Mark Zuckerberg. As likely to direct a film next as start another company. They’re edgy, cool, counter-cultural. I call them the creative outsiders.
