In March and April 2025, House Republicans passed a rule that effectively redefined a "calendar day" for a specific legal purpose related to presidential national emergencies and tariffs, leading to the expression "a day is a year" or "a day is not a calendar day". Context of the Rule Change National Emergencies Act: Under the National Emergencies Act, Congress can terminate a presidentially declared national emergency by passing a joint resolution, which is guaranteed an expedited vote within a certain number of "calendar days" (18 calendar days in the Senate). This ensures congressional oversight of executive power. Trump Tariffs: President Trump used the authority granted by a national emergency declaration to impose tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico. The GOP Maneuver: To avoid a politically difficult vote on terminating these tariffs, House Republicans passed a rule stating: “Each day for the remainder of the first session of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day for purposes of section 202 of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622) with respect to a joint resolution terminating a national emergency declared by the President on February 1, 2025”.

On the one year anniversary of the assassination attempt on Trump’s life, Charlie hosted @ComicDaveSmith at @TPUSA ’s SAS conference where Dave Smith was able to speak to a bunch of conservative youth at an organization that claims to be Pro-Trump. 3 weeks ago, Dave Smith called for President Trump to be IMPEACHED and REMOVED from office over his decision to blow up Iran’s nuclear facilities. Charlie played both sides of the Iran issue on his show as we all saw, because he wants to play to both sides of the aisle. The honorable thing to do is to have a position and actually defend it to the death instead of flip flopping. Smith said all of MAGA “should turn on Trump” and abandon him. He said this 3 weeks ago. See the clip below. 👇🏻 TPUSA is definitely not pro-Trump. If they were, they certainly aren’t anymore.
