I think it is because of the many YT tutorials with their secret magic fix take on them as the secret solution for many a painter's ache when they are simply techniques and tools that you too need to learn to use well, so when people don't instantly make progress, they feel cheated and grow hostile

This is one of the main reasons I left Warhammer behind, as it becomes more and more of a reddit chud sandbox echo chamber. I also always laugh at various dinguses that go all "no politics in my gaem!" - they actually want MORE politics, as long as it's theirs. ;)

You likely already seen it or heard about it but I could not recommend James Gurney's Color and Light more for that, it changed my whole approach to how I see light and color on my minis and I'm sure it translates even stronger to drawing and painting on canvas/digital.

I tend to stay away from the WWI & II stuff in wargames - it tends to attract a very... let's say Bowels of Reddit kinda dudes that I prefere not in a mile radius of my life.

Pure truth, this approach helped me immensly with both getting better and healing from burnout with miniature painting, as I was trapped in an endless cycle of "try to do better" and "there is a 2k Dark Angels army to be done on Monday" by setting a firm "I'm done" for both fast and slow works.
