I’ve taken in many elderly dogs in my day and while some have warmed up immediately, most have taken some time.
Instantaneous bonds are nice because low effort/high reward, but the ones who made me work for it are the ones I’ve probably held closest to my heart my whole life.

The attempt to educate is admirable, but you have to understand it’s wasted. 85% of the American populace is brainwashed with consumerism and literally has no foresight, so they are easily blindsided every time the economy dips.

My old pupper LOVED nothing more than to try and snuggle…until I did anything that remotely annoyed her like talk or do anything that didn’t resemble acting like a beanbag chair.

Politicians and media lying to us is essentially yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater, where there isn’t any kind of fire.
Should it be met with imprisonment…probably not.
Should it be a civil crime that should be so expensive that lying would financially ruin them. Absolutely.

You could, but another way to do it is to just describe what is happening using the “show, not tell” depending on where you are in the prose.
Someone on the edge tends to have visceral and tangible tells and depending on the character, even the most stoic, that manifests in different ways.
