When my kids were little, we shopped at Costco. They had money tubes on the tills. My son who was little, asked me if the the tubes were how how the people working the cash registers got their hot dogs from the food concession? And I said, yes... because that's the world I wanted him to believe in.

Somehow I've become older and, suddenly, I understand why I've been enjoying the fifties more than I'd enjoyed the forties. It's the difference between August and October. There's just a crisper sparkle in autumn.

Line of Sight....
The Old Strathcona railway tracks sometimes glow at dawn; mostly in autumn. It's short lived and beautiful. When it happens, it's like being in a painting. It gives my eyes a feeling like a runners high.

First Frost...
An old car hood and windshield glazed in yesterday's tomato-killing frost. [Sigh]. A change as inevitable as nature running its course; but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The cold makes the hard, harder.

This is an empty water feature outside our provincial legislature building, which if you are American, would be like a State legislature. They drain it here for winter. They should do the same inside the building, frankly.
