Musician, weird guy, and still new to Sacramento.

Pretty bad at social media, so please don't take offense if I miss something or do it wrong.
And the tough part here is that the listener will never understand what's the mix and what's the master. This album is such a piece of art that leaving mastering in the artist's hands is the right move. It's a far cry from the rock'n roll garbage I usually churn out that requires a pro mastering 😹
yeah some mastering engineers are heavy handed and really shouldn't be doing the job. mastering should only make things better. unfortunately it's gotten a lot worse in the last 15 years or so.

people with a decent home studio think they can master when they really shouldn't be

I honestly feel like it's in the best interest of *this* music to keep it with someone passionate about the outcome: in this case, the artist themself.
So I gave Mr Intelectconfig advice I've never given anyone, ever: don't send this off to be professionaly mastered. Hopefully those who are lucky enough to hear the end results will agree with that being the right decision...
And if this album were going to compete with radio-friendly mixes (and music, for that matter), it would need a professional mastering. But this album is...different. I can't see a great outcome from a professional mastering. It's too unique and cool the way it is...

Understandably, levels will need to come up, which I feel an artist/mixer is capable of doing to their own music. Matching levels track-to-track is more a technical thing that can be done using meters, so can avoid mastering for just that process...

You're right: as a standard, nobody should matter their own music, I'm totally with you on that. I will argue, with the benefit of having gotten to listen to the new synapse collapse album pre-master, that I really wish this album didn't have to get mastered at all. It's friggin' beautiful as it is.

Kylesa is always the soundtrack of choice for moving. #kylesa

I'm no fan of moving, and I've done it so many times. I'm really hoping this is my last move for a decade or two.

Legend.
The Rolling Stones lips but it's a butthole. Do they still sue people? I have an idea.

I might never be a sports fan, but I'll be damned if this isn't a great Super Bowl party. #SacTown

Hanging out in the Bay Area for a couple of days with work. Does anyone have any suggestions for Bay Area bands I should be listening to while cruising around?

I hate to be annoying because I don’t really even care if anyone pays money for it, but please consider listening to this!! I absolutely love this release of mine. If you listen to it and love it and want to buy it but can’t afford it I will happily send a code your way.
