My publisher, Lyons Press, told me that the book is a success and has been "selling very well," especially for (as they put it) "a year that's been bad for books."

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support. This could never have happened without all of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This past year has been a banner year, obviously, because of the book. I couldn't have asked for a better reception to the release of "Judy Garland: The Voice of MGM" than I received from critics and fans. It's been a dream come true.

An article in the local paper, published on July 14, 1969, reported that Judy was planning to travel to Manchester to see her cement block placed in the "Wall of Fame," but she passed away before that event. The cast was never put on the wall and is currently lost. The gardens closed in 1982.

It was incorrectly reported that this event happened at Tony Hatch's new clothing shop in Bromley on June 18, 1969, the claim being that these were the final photos taken of Judy before her death. In July 2020, Mr. Hatch was contacted and explained that this event did not occur at his shop.

Early January 1969: During her engagement at the Talk of the Town in London, England, Judy Garland put her hand and footprints in cement for the Belle Vue Zoo and Gardens' "Wall of Fame" in Manchester. Judy did not travel to Manchester. The folks from Manchester brought the materials to her.

These last two days were devoted to the opening scenes of the sequence, featuring Dorothy's entrance and her initial meeting with Glinda (Billie Burke).  These were the last scenes of the extensive sequence to be shot, ending about two weeks of filming on that fantastic set.

December 29, 1938:  This was the first of the last two days of filming the "Munchkinland" sequence for "The Wizard of Oz."

This version was filmed but ultimately deleted when a less "noisy" version was re-recorded in 1947. This early version was the film's original opening. "Manuela" sings about her fantasies of the pirate "Mack the Black." A short clip of this is in the trailer.

Everything happens for a reason, as they say, and the result is we have the 1954 masterpiece.

This performance gave Judy the idea of playing the role on the big screen, which she finally did in 1954. Judy originally went to MGM (her home studio at the time) to adapt the story into a dramatic musical, but they felt the subject matter was too adult for her image as "America's Sweetheart."

December 28, 1942:  Judy played Esther Blodget in the CBS Radio "Lux Radio Theater" adaptation of "A Star Is Born," costarring Walter Pidgeon.

The green makeup had copper in it, resulting in her being so badly burned that she was immediately rushed to the hospital and out of the film until mid-February. She suffered first-degree burns on her face and second-degree burns on her hands, per an MGM memo dated January 5, 1939.

Everything was fine until after lunch, when the scene was filmed again. The trap door on the floor of the stage that contained an elevator-type rigging to lower Hamilton didn't work correctly, and she was severely burned.
