…but, studies have shown a fully free public good is often treated as expendable by a populace (of adults, does not apply to playgrounds), and if a nominal fee is requested then people behave and treat it with respect.
So, maybe charge $0.25 for a bus, $0.50 for a subway, or $1 for all day.
