Technical writers are shapeshifters—we adapt to whatever the situation demands.

Listen to our latest episode with Fabrizio Ferri-Benedetti (@theletterf.bsky.social) on strategic thinking, his Seven-Action Documentation model, and growing as a tech writer in the AI era.

We have to take on the shape that best suits the situation at any given moment." Attribution: Fabrizio Ferri-Benedetti, passo.uno. Worst thing that's come out of generative AI?

All the utterly undeserved dunks on em and en dashes.

This is why we can't have nice things.

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

You'd consider me un-Italian, since I love pineapple pizza and cappuccino in the evenings. They'll withdraw my passport one of these days...

Wednesday really is the new Friday, don't you think? I'm exhausted by the time I get there!

To me, applying LLMs to style checking is like taming a bear into dancing a two hours ballet opera. It'll get distracted sooner or later and then bite you in the back.

I think of Aikido when AI + docs worries surface. Aikido as in "don't block the attack, use it to disarm your opponent". Which, in our case, could be "Create guidelines to better generate docs using AI instead of forbidding its usage or avoiding the question". Bit realpolitik? You betcha.

There's worse. I once stayed at a hotel where the toilet was separated from the bedroom by a wall of empty wine bottles.

Preposition hell sounds a lot like English. Good thing my brain is an LLM.
