I try not to say my worst case outcome(s). It seems as if every warning by other writers, luminaries of sci-fi, is being treating not as warning, but instruction manual. At this point? I do not want to give them ideas.

It can also make people big mad saying stuff that makes The Road seem uplifting.

It would be fine to say to oneself, "Welcome to the party, pal." Then just get on with the actual work of Doing The Things to make life better, and work with less informed, but well meaning people.

Sure, call out weak or bad leadership. Keep up that vigor and volume for calling out worse.

That seems a fair assessment. Regardless, it's also an easy way to more followers, and lots of updoots.

It's less fun to say they know less, or haven't had formative experiences that kindled a burning passion for these topics. Plenty are also just too busy and tired simply trying to survive.

I think the best way to get people on side, is talk to them like normal people. Talk about things that most people care about, not in theory brain in-group words, but average everyday language. Relate to them, be patient, listen, be kind. Everyone starts somewhere, so start from where they are.

I remember that time well. There's a lot I could say about back then. How risky and hard it was not cheering on what went down. But mostly? Mostly it sucks to be here again. Needless conflict and misery, making the world more unstable, because some people wanna look tough, and make money off oil.

...rather than be able to find (safely, and with consent) whatever it is they are actually looking for in reality.

I don't think the problems will get solved overnight, nor with legislation alone. The latter which might negatively impact SWers, general adult entertainment, as well as queer people.

Not the full measure and depth of the topic, or potential causes and symptoms.

However, threads like that feel like jumping to conclusions and thinly veiled moral panics over porn and kinks, just with an AI twist. Not truly grappling with the problems of AI, and why people would turn to it...

People are increasingly poor, overworked, tired, and third spaces to maybe connect with others, both aren't everywhere in the first place, and I think are dwindling too. Malls for example, where people could hang out as in the past, shuttering due to things like Amazon and other online shops.
December 29, 2025 at 4:13 AM
I think this sort of thing is kind of complex. Part of it is a porn angle, sure.

But I also ties into the wider societal problems, including but not limited to increasingly lonely, disconnected people looking for any oasis, real or not, in the desert that is the hellscape we find ourselves in.
December 29, 2025 at 4:08 AM
It's really tricky, honestly. Reading that thread was a mix. Some of it was that "AI is bad," which yes, may the LLM bubble burst soon.

But there's also what reads like a mix of "oh no, porn" pearl clutching, and anyone who'd fall for that as would be predators, incels, and so on.

I've always found RTD to be a bit hit or miss.

Occasionally, you get an episode like Midnight. But there's also stuff like Aliens of London, or Space Babies.

Placement of episodes, longer seasons, & someone like prime Moffat guest writing helps. Also, hopefully the cast can carry a bad episode.

There was hate for Jodie being cast from the start by the usual suspects. I doubt Ncuti fared better with that lot.

I enjoyed Jodie's era. At times it gave me Classic Who vibes. Ncuti's era? I think a mix of cast availability (so rewrites) and general writing, plus streaming deal impacted things.

I never know what to recommend, because my music taste spans multiple genres, eras, and languages. Not everyone is like that.

For example? Just small sampling from today's listening, Android Lust, Black Tape For a Blue Girl, Theatre of Tragedy, HEALTH, Everglow, Spiritbox, Indila, Sheena Ringo, etc

It's frustrating. Months ago, saw art shared elsewhere, and someone in comments said it was AI. Except it wasn't. You could find the artist on YouTube, drawing it start to finish.

So, this public distrust of legit things is going to continue to be a problem. The arts, news, and so on.

Tonight's the night. And it's going to happen again and again. Has to happen.

Treats. Head pats. Walks.

Eepy lil Dexter is so cute. But the blurry pic, that sort of conveys that vibrating with excitement and joy, that's my favorite so far.

At some point, there'd be one that gets someone running up to them asking, "Can you share with us your wisdom, alien friend?"

They say, "Nothing comes to mind. Look, I'm just changing the equivalent of my tire on the side of the road. Piss off." And next thing ya know, an alien piss cult starts.
December 13, 2025 at 9:21 PM
If writing fiction about this sorta thing, for me, my first thought would be, what sort of aliens are we dealing with?

Are these broadly friendly, indifferent, hostile? Are they on a mission, vacation, path of conquest? Stranded? Resource grab? Religious pilgrimage or proselytizing?

Without spoiling anything, my own take is it was ok. It's not super long, so maybe time for it.

It's one of those I almost feel would have worked more, for me, as something else (full VN, show, RPG, not sure).

Also, the stuff I liked most, there wasn't enough of, or felt a bit unevenly done.

I still remember watching a streamer struggle with navigation in Elden Ring, and feel lost on where to go or find maps. Why? Distracted by chat and spamming through tutorial messages and dialogue.

Strict no backseating meant nobody could point out the missed info, or where to re-read them in menu.
November 14, 2025 at 9:39 PM
Anything I haven't played yet, and might, it's me avoiding spoilers. Same reason I didn't pop by for Silent Hill f streams, which I absolutely want to play, but haven't got to it yet.

Regardless, enjoy your current hyperfixation.

I still have fond memories of a long gone video store from childhood. Walking in, you could smell the buttered popcorn.

That's how I found new movies and games then. And long before word of mouth got the word out, that's how I wound up watching The Princess Bride the first time (of many to come).

I didn't even know the lore before reading into it today. I recognized the game, and knew it was yet another riff on Journey to the West.

There was a bit of buzz around it coming out, when it did, shiny new game and all. And then I didn't really hear about it again.
