Finally watched Black Sunday. Great terrorist conspiracy thriller. Another banger from Frankenheimer. Some astonishing shots and set-pieces. Tense finale expertly edited and cut to a cracking Williams score. I wonder if Nolan was inspired by for the Dark Knight Rises.

Finally watched Black Sunday. Great terrorist conspiracy thriller. Another banger from Frankenheimer. Some astonishing shots and set-pieces. Tense finale expertly edited and cut to a cracking Williams score. I wonder if Nolan was inspired by for the Dark Knight Rises.
The Order was excellent. Gritty, enthralling thriller. Holt’s best performance. Law grizzled.

September 5 was excellent. Tight, propulsive, tense, powerful thriller. In the control room as the harrowing story plays out.

Companion was very good. Surprising twists and turns. Black streak of humour. Sort of a domestic Westworld. Shame the marketing ruined one of the reveals, but ultimately didn’t hurt the movie. Fun thriller.

Joker Folie a Deux even better on a second watch. Excellent sequel. Tragic, bleak, subversive. Phoenix as good if not better performance. Love the choice of songs and set pieces. More fool everyone that puts Joker on a pedestal as some figure to admire and worship.

Werewolves was a fun Purge meets werewolf action flick. Very good cgi and practical effects for the budget. Always enjoy Grillo kicking ass.

Finally watched Seven Days in May. Superb. One of the great political conspiracy thrillers.
Enjoyed Wolf Man. A fairly straightforward cabin in the woods story, but I liked the modern spin on the classic story. The body horror was gnarly. I would have preferred a hairier wolfman look but the design was grotesque. Nice companion piece to the sublime The Invisible Man.

A Complete Unknown was excellent. The best music bio pic since Walk The Line. Mangold is a master. Great performances across the board. All the songs worked superbly. Hit some nice emotional beats. The Oscars loves this type of movie so Chalamet will win a deserved best actor.

A Complete Unknown was excellent. The best music bio pic since Walk The Line. Mangold is a master. Great performances across the board. All the songs worked superbly. Hit some nice emotional beats. The Oscars loves this type of movie so Chalamet will win a deserved best actor.

Another watch of The Invisible Man. One of the great thrillers of the 2000’s. Smary reinterpretation of a classic. Better than 99% of the so called “elevated horror” output that gets so much attention. Has possibly the most jaw dropping wtf moments. Can’t wait for Wolf Man.
Watched Godzilla Minus One in the cinema over a year ago and loved it. Waited until I could get in on physical media to watch again. Incredible film. Engaging story with some emotional beats. Wonderful score. Great action. One of the best blockbusters of the decade.

Strange Darling was excellent. Told out of chronological order via chapters to deliver nice twists, turns & reveals. Strong performances from leads Fitzgerald and Gallner. Violent, bloody, darkly humorous. Better than most of the more lauded thrillers/ “elevated horrors” of 2024.

Picked up this western epic. Enjoyed it as much on a second watch. Sprawling multi-part story perfectly paced. Love the score. Hope Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 gets a theatrical release early 2025.

Really enjoyed the first 2 episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Fun adventure with an 80’s Amblin vibe. Part Goonies, part Pirates of the Caribbean. Interesting mystery and the kids are likeable. After more misfires than hits with the Star Wars Disney+ shows, we might just have another winner.

Really enjoyed the first 2 episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Fun adventure with an 80’s Amblin vibe. Part Goonies, part Pirates of the Caribbean. Interesting mystery and the kids are likeable. After more misfires than hits with the Star Wars Disney+ shows, we might just have another winner.
Rewatched Alien: Romulus. Great entry into the franchise. Some cool set-pieces, gross births, interesting lore expansion. Andy was badass. Would like a sequel but would love a conclusion to Ridley’s David story.

I’m a Christmas movie guy, and for me a Christmas movie is defined simply by a festive spirit, family, redemption… and a bit of violence doesn’t go a miss. First up for 2024 is Lethal Weapon.

I’m a Christmas movie guy, and for me a Christmas movie is defined simply by a festive spirit, family, redemption… and a bit of violence doesn’t go a miss. First up for 2024 is Lethal Weapon.
Conclave was excellent. A gripping political/ conspiracy thriller set in the Vatican. Builds momentum with each reveal and delivers an interesting twist. Ralph Fiennes leading a reliable cast. Taken out of it slightly by the fact it’s filmed in the Theed Royal Palace on Naboo.
