However a decision has been made when it comes to the next stage of the stories for the alternate arcs, which I'll talk about more at the end of the month, when the final queues for this part are posted.

Today we have the next chapter for Cornelius's side story over at the website, and then another new arc at Patreon, making it a two post day.

I finished off all the screenshots for the rest of chapter 68 too, which is bittersweet.

I really try to remember to do this every day, post about someone's work, tell them they're awesome, etc. The benefit is they feel good AND you get to feel good for doing that. Win win.

You know what I think we should all do? Just start reply to stuff with positive comments.

Dickheads are so quick to comment, how about we tell people they look good? Their art is cool? The event sounds excellent. Whatever. Fucking hell, let’s just be openly nice for once.

Today's queue is up on the feed. Surprisingly Titus actually has a heart...

"What does that mean?"
"Anne's from the birthplace of magic, the only soul born within. My choice to enter when I did changed everything, which I couldn't have known, and when I did... it's my fault, Celeste. She'd be normal if I hadn't done what I did."
"Hence the bond."
"It was the only way."
Titus looking at Celeste, as she looks back at him.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"Leading us to where we are now."
"Exactly, and Dante... I knew he was a certainty, but not when he'd arrive. I thought it would be between lives, and then he surprised me by coming here with weeks before the ritual."
"A certainty?"
"With Anne being who she is it was a necessity."
Celeste looking at Titus as he looks back at her.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"Not enough to stay."
"You wouldn't tell her what she wanted to know."
"Using magic to try to stop her leaving didn't help."
"Titus..."
"When it comes to the possibility of losing her I make mistakes. Anne... the bond heightens emotions, Celeste, and those emotions sometimes take control."
Titus still looking into the distance, Celeste's eyes not leaving him.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"In return I'd like to know everything Anne shared with you before she left. Her choice... it was probably inevitable, but leaves me with one option."
"Titus..."
"Father would never forgive me, Celeste."
"He's been gone for millennia."
"Doesn't change the promise."
"She cared about you."
Celeste looking at Titus, as he still looks into the distance.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"To Thaddeus?"
"Father wanted me to protect Anne, a request made more complicated by who she is, and that... I shouldn't be telling you any of this."
"You're cursing my family line at the ritual. I won't be a problem after that."
"We both know it's not that simple."
"No, but you want to talk."
Titus looking at nothing as Celeste looks at him.

Gently, Celeste pushed Titus away, so they were sitting side by side. He didn't looking at her. It was unlikely he'd explain anything, but at least it would take her mind off Leonora's death.
"How much did Anne tell you?"
"As much as she knew, which wasn't a lot, was it?"
"I made a promise."
Celeste looking at Titus, as he sits beside her.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"Debatable."
"I might have made mistakes, but that's because I'm not infallible. Mistakes don't make someone evil."
"Anne didn't want to be immortal."
"Unfortunately Anne didn't have a choice."
"Titus..."
"Nothing is as simple as it seems."
"Explain it to me. It won't matter after the ritual."
Titus holding Celeste, arm around her.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"Why are you being kind?"
Titus sighed, drawing Celeste down, more into his arms. "It's my fault."
"Yes, it is, but that doesn't explain it, Titus."
"Anne's gone. She left with Dante in the middle of the night. My fault too. Now, though, you don't have a friend, and I... well, I'm not evil."
Titus on the floor, an arm around Celeste, while she has her arm around his back.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Nothing about crying on Titus Lockwood's chest made any sense. They'd never been friends. At one point she'd found him attractive, until she learnt more about him, and that faded. Having him be kind to her... there was a reason for it, one she didn't understand, but it couldn't change things.
Celeste on the ground, Titus's arms around her.

As Celeste dropped to the ground, her knees seemingly giving up on her entirely, Titus moved without thinking, curling his arms around her. Neither of them said anything. Celeste simply rested her head on him, tears continuing to fall. He waited for her to be ready to talk, because there was more.

People changed. Celeste couldn't say the words, tears streaming down her cheeks, because Leonora was gone, and Titus, of all people, was there to tell her. Not Anne. There had to be a reason for that, but it didn't matter in that moment. Now she was the one to decide whether she'd be at the ritual.
Celeste with her hands in front of her face.

"Mother's..." Celeste bit down on her bottom lip, looking like she couldn't say the word. "I didn't think she'd be coming back. The connection to the house... I never wanted this. To be the Ember matriarch."
"Very few do." The utter devastation in her face was unexpected. "You weren't close before."
Titus looking at Celeste.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"You knew."
"I knew about Cornelius. What I didn't do was Look any deeper, Celeste, because there was a very low chance of him succeeding. Leonora being with him was a surprise."
"Not a shock."
"They were friends, once."
"She went with him for Anne, Titus."
"Of course she did. I'm sorry."
Titus with his hands in front of him, gesturing.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"Mother doesn't want to talk to you."
"No, she wouldn't if she was here, but we both know she isn't Celeste. I..." There was an uncertainty in Titus's eyes Celeste had never seen before. "Earlier Nicholas came by the house to ask me to check on Cornelius. He'd been missing for days."
Celeste at the bottom of the steps leading up to the house, one hand on the side of her face and her other arm around her waist.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"What are you doing here, Titus?"
"This is a conversation it might be best to have inside."
"No, I'm not letting you in the house. Mother would never forgive me."
"Do you know where Leonora is?"
A flicker of worry told Titus Celeste did know, and she'd been waiting, like Natalie.
Titus standing near the Ember house, one arm around his waist, as Celeste glares at him.
thelockwoods.me.uk
Waiting didn't get any easier, and then Celeste felt someone walking toward the house, but it couldn't be Leonora. They were too strong. Unless they'd made it... although if they had it was likely it wouldn't have been so long. Fortunately everyone else was sleep, so she made her way to the door.
Celeste standing on the doorstep, hands on her hips, looking at an unwanted visitor.

Leonora gave Titus an excuse to talk to Celeste, although the very idea of going to the Ember house... he sighed. There was no other option. Nicholas could wait. Celeste needed to be told, because she might not even have known what her mother was doing. Standing, he left the birthplace of magic.
Titus looking into the distance, sitting beside Leonora.

Glancing at Cornelius, who lay at Leonora's feet, Titus was able to see how the wards had burnt his hands to begin with, but that hadn't been enough to stop him. He truly believed he'd be able to reach the power he needed to save Anne, only Anne was gone, choosing Dante as her future.
Cornelius laying at the end of Leonora's feet, a hand underneath his head, face half burned and other injuries obvious.
thelockwoods.me.uk
"I'm sorry." Titus knelt beside Leonora, looking at her. "You thought this was the only way, and you were right, because I can't let the Embers keep their soul magic. Not now Dante's in Anne's life. When you chose to work against it me it gave me a good excuse, but this... I wanted you to live."
Titus kneeling beside Leonora, looking down at her. There are obvious injuries to her face.
thelockwoods.me.uk
From where he stood Leonora looked almost as though she were asleep, but Titus knew better. She'd made the choice to help Cornelius, although maybe it wasn't so much helping as trying to talk him out of it until she couldn't any longer. It was too late. Cornelius's failure killed them both.
