So yes, it was probably already in their plan and wasn’t new, but it’s definitely opening the door to moving things along, and perhaps accelerating them. My point was the assassinations the OP cited didn’t do that because they didn’t care about the victims. They were glad they died.

Worse is maybe not the exact correct word. But at least right now, we are at the stage where they are still using thinly veiled excuses to do stuff. They’re not good excuses. But they need to handwave why they’re doing fascist stuff. And this is a great handwave for whatever they decide to do next.

Where did I say any of that? I’m not suggesting anyone comply at any point and I assure you I am more than happy to speak ill of the dead when the have caused irreparable harm. Some of y’all are projecting some wild subtext onto what I said.

Yes. And they’ll use this as another excuse to make things worse. If it wasn’t this it would be something else but this is a really excellent excuse for them to do things like tighten up policing or revoke more rights and claim “law and order.” It’s entirely predictable.

It’s not “complying in advance” to look at their past behavior and forecast what their future behavior will probably be. I’m simply saying this assassination is different from the ones OP cited because it’s their guy this time, and they will react differently.

Where am I discouraging action? I never said people shouldn’t take action. I simply pointed out they can and will use this as leverage to turn up the temperature and tighten their squeeze. Yes, if not this they would find another reason. But this is a REALLY GOOD reason.

That isn’t saying it was okay those deaths got shrugged off, because it wasn’t. But in terms of what they will do now, it is fundamentally different.

I think this is different in a way though because it was a fascist who got shot, and they will use this as leverage to do more horrible shit. They were happy to let those assassinations go by because they don’t care, but this was one of their guys. So in many ways, yes it will be worse now.
