Body in the twin cities, mind in the 16th-early 20th century. Thomas Paine was robbed…and so were we.
Even for someone who aspires to be well-mannered, progressive and have a good vocabulary….

I’m now thinking about that word’s replacement when used in sexual situations.

Every other word seems somehow more “off”. Removing it entirely could work. Instead of “your x” or “my y”, it just becomes “you” or “me”…but that could be a bit inexact at times.

Absolutely.

There is nothing more terrifying than an identity that cannot acknowledge anything other than what it sees as a reinforcement of its perfection.

The title of that work attracts all kinds of disingenuous and ignorant assholes.

None of them did the reading.

Their energy levels have always surprised me. I suppose it is the restlessness that comes with being uncomfortable.

Also, they are not held back by the uncertainty that comes from being skeptical and having theory of mind.

Ive always liked the term “hard unintelligence” that was quoted by Matthew Arnold in “Civilization in the United States”

As Matthew Arnold said in 1888….

*laughs nervously* So, this is a Jonathan Swift bit, right?

“A XYZ Proposal” and all that, right?

Satire, right????

Oh fuck.

The phrase “spirit of the law” is such mealy mouthed nonsense.

The “spirit of the law” is “the people and what they intended the law to do”.

It isn’t “flouting the spirit and the letter of the law” - it is “spitting in the face of the people and what they wanted”.

Mmmm….intellectual rigor, a café expresso spécial Flore and Gauloise blonde cigarettes… 🤤

Matt’s right. Racism is full of values - really bad ones.

Extreme wealth severs people from reality and from the shared plight of the individual. It corrodes the mind and they, in turn, spread that corrosion to society.

Regulate this and, in so doing, we will regulate (and make it easier to regulate) thousands of other problems.

That fundamental problem will eat away at any regulation that is placed on top of it. It will find ways to seep out around it. It will build infrastructure to attack it. It will use its influence to weaken it.

This applies to almost any regulation that is for the societal good.

This was a great discussion, but I think there is a fundamental problem that affects AI realignment to the societal gold (and the alignment of all technologies….and so many other issues). That problem is the concentration of wealth in individuals and companies.

Orrrrrrr…..

Orrrrrrrr…

Maaaaaybe…..

We try and kick out the Foolish Consistency hobgoblin out of our little minds and implement some of the zillion good ideas that are already out there.

There would have to be flashbacks throughout.

James McAvoy….Paul Bettany…..

I think it would all have to pivot on who is cast as Paine.

Just harmless little “social-media videos”….I mean, what weird or horrible shit could one do with beloved Disney characters?

Pardon me while I buy ALL the popcorn and make myself comfortable.

I think the rough translation is:

“I’m a virgin. I did it with a cold sex doll once and, man, it wasn’t great. I think it could be better with a person. I’m also really hungry.”

Indignant Me: “Do they really need to call/text every phone and send an email?”

Desensitized me: “Yes. They do.”

I hate to admit that I need the WUPHF.
