US Marine vet. Described as “mildly interesting and not entertaining” by my kids. Miami (OH), Ohio Univ. Followed only by bots.
Yeah that’s 100% right. Monday nights in Wick’s basement were always the best. I did a Thucydides elective at CSC that was a close second. That Prof wasn’t really affiliated with MCU… I think he was retired & volunteering his time. We ended up running from Jan to the end of the year. Just the best.

Oh man - I was the first year for PCX. What a disaster.

Gauging prospective faculty members by their 10k times is not a winning strategy.

So this is spot on. I was fortunate to teach with incredibly talented students & faculty. But as a student? Meh… It was probably the “electives” (Wick Murray & quatrefoil) that kept me going.

Yeah this checks out.

Thoughts on resident EWS? Having been thru both (non-res & res each, because I hate myself; then teaching at Geiger) it seemed to me that being unbound from degree & JPME requirements made the curriculum more agile than CSC & MCWAR.

It’s the cleanest they’ve ever been, too 🤣

Not having a good time is an understatement.

Haven’t watched the video yet, but having a firing incident during this is so completely insane.

From out on the coast they’d be shooting into the W impact area on Pendleton… lots of undulating terrain and really difficult to spot PD. We prefer Ti fuzing in that impact area whenever possible. I’ve had more in observed, but heard (not a real call) PD rounds than I’d like to admit.

Yeah SD County Sheriff was patrolling the skies over north county at about the same. But to clear the peak at San Onofre with arty, they’ll have rounds at ~15-20k msl (ish).

I didn’t see the I MEF statement, but the only established firing points are east of the 5. But all it would require is a range deviation approved by the base commander (I think) and at that range to the impact area they’ll need the FAA to shut down the coastal corridor (unsure of the altitude).

But I mean the first rule of risk management is accept no unnecessary risk. And this seems, well…

Retired 08 here… NSFS ordnance isn’t cleared for overhead fire. Most 155 is, but the SDZ for overhead fire doesn’t open up for 750m, meaning they would have to just sneak it in at Red Beach to have the 5 be 750m away from the firing point.

“Wet feet or no feet… quit jumping across ditches.”

Not a crowd pleaser on a winter tour. Proud to have brought everyone home, though.

MLB playoffs?

Yeah, I mean “Feels like Home” is another great Raitt cover… Randy Newman had the original iirc.

Bonnie Raitt’s “Angel from Montgomery” and Tool’s “No Quarter,” a couple of my favorites.

Seconded… I went through the fall cohort in San Diego and it was awesome. Wish it was better advertised on Marine bases (at least SoCal).

I mean, life as a 2ndLt is already hard… being known as “Lieutenant Cadet Kelly” isn’t going to make it easier.

My good buddy was the rival drill team leader and later became a Marine officer. It was *epic* when his LCpl’s found out their 2ndLt was in a Disney movie.
