CGI set extensions are just modern matte paintings, human artists creating movie magic. Here's how they work, using Wicked as an example.

Vanity Fair asked me to talk about visual effects, and it was my great honor to show off some of ILM’s terrific work over the years.

When directors shoot "practical, in camera, for real", who do you think that sets them apart from and what do you think it means about the amount of CGI in the film?

Everybody: FUCK YOU JK
Emma: K I know she's shit but we're friends
Everybody: Why are you friends with a shit person?
JK: FUCK YOU EMMA

THANK GOD she replied to Emma in the shittiest way possible, leaving out any grey area where anyone can kinda sorta still like some of her

Also every aspect of acting, directing, editing involves improvising "on the day" and there's nothing special about this, yet any minuscule "did you know THIS thing was improvised" makes the director/actor nothing short of divine in the public's eye, twice as much if it's a Nolan film
themovierabbithole.bsky.social
Accurate. Also headlines will amaze people with details down to "did you know when this actor lifted their eyebrows it was improvised and the other actors didn't know about it but the director liked it so much they kept it in the scene" and it's like.... oh you mean acting.

People seriously have to cut it with the "did you know this was improvised/accidental" gibberish.

"Director saw a shot he filmed with the purpose of putting it in his film and decided to put it in his film" is not the lightning in a bottle people make of it.
