I have read no analysis that backs this up. In fact, they didn't surrender even after Nagasaki. Hirohito simply refused to accept unconditional terms.

I maintain that given what Truman knew at the time (not what we know 80 years later), using the bombs was the correct decision. That or face a prolonged conventional assault with hundreds of thousands of US casualties. Those people in H and N were going to die as long as Japan remained...

They surrendered after the Soviets invaded Manchuria on August 9, 1945. They finally realized the war was unwinnable. But the best argument for your position is that the bombs might not have been necessary to bring this about; Soviet invasion was unknown to Truman. 1/2
