Hi, #Scriptsky. I'm Peter Briggs: I sold my first spec to Fox in '92. I'm credited co-writer on the 2004 movie "Hellboy"; past 30 years I've been hired-by or sold specs to all the major studios.

My side hustle: I provide consultancy to emerging screenwriters serious about their craft. Links above!

I don't know why I never did this before...but I idly Shazamed "Escape From New York" (a movie I once wrote a sequel to...long story) last night...and discovered the tape played by Cabbie (which ruins the Hartford Peace Summit) is Les Elgart's '54 Bandstand Boogie.

Saw the '66 Pollack movie "This Property Is Condemned". Kept thinking it felt like a typical Tennessee Williams rehash...mostly as it is, adapted from his one act play by Coppola. Redford's the guy who comes to a small town to lay people off, Natalie Wood is the dreamer who falls for him. Liked it.

Tron creates a terrific Dialog "lexicon" of terms that sound wonderfully cyberpunk. Legacy didn't even manage to come close to that invention, its seductive surface gloss aside. Tron just suffers from that cheap in-house Disney period live action cinematography "look".

The Administration suffers from scattershot structure, lack of a clear throughline, and frankly-implausible character arcs.

Oh. From what? What's she done? (In the interests of disclosure, I realized the other day due to her new album drop, that I actually know one of her songs - Shake It Off - although I'm blissfully unaware of the rest of her output. She's hot, though.)

See, I'm the reverse. This is the moment I panic and go back through my Followers List to cull back the Bots and Phonies.

I remember somebody taking me there proudly and showing it off. I never had the heart to tell him about Foyles Books in London...

Well - the legend is it was "Vengeance Of Khan", and Lucas leaned on Paramount (a "Temple Of Doom" threat) to change it to "Wrath", as he didn't want a "Revenge Of The Jedi" confusion. Until someone told Lucas a Jedi couldn't have revenge. But Paramount had changed the "Trek" title then, and so...

Oooooh! Maybe not! The chemicals on those wipes and sanitizer might not like some of the more esoteric materials if you have some exotic fountain pens.

I went looking: IT WASN'T A FEVER DREAM! I didn't imagine it!

Thank God. I spent decades thinking it was false memory syndrome. Here it is: "Vengeance", not "Wrath".

@nicholasmeyer.bsky.social: do you have any idea how these early toys went ahead and leaked out, despite the "Jedi" title change?

I was in a village toy shop in Britain around '86 and found a small Diecast Trek 2 Enterprise. What made me look twice was the packaging said "The Vengeance Of Khan" on it. I wish I'd bought it. I've never seen one since, and I've never seen anyone report original title packaging "in the wild".

This one --

"Astronomers discover that the moon isn't a natural satellite. It's an egg, and it's starting to hatch."

-- Is literally the plot of the staggeringly-terrible Peter Capaldi "Doctor Who" episode "Kill The Moon".

In an earlier Troma era, it would be a "Current Administration" putting all the minorities into one platoon to try "get rid of their problem". I'm thinking a camper version of "Tropic Thunder". You can see The Current Bloke initiating "Operation Rainbow Warrior"...
