THE PICKERS is a journey to European fields where our fruit and vegetables are grown: in Southern Italy, Seydou from Mali is picking oranges. 🍊
He has no contract and is paid per crate. He lives in a self-built hut in a settlement without water and electricity.

We contacted several major supermarkets asking them to meet with us as part of the Meet THE PICKERS Tour. ALDI South welcomed us to show the film and ask the question: ‘How can we ensure that our food is not produced through exploitation?’

Gilles Reckinger is an Austrian-based academic who has written two books on migrant workers in agriculture in Europe, including Bitter Oranges about African labourers in Calabria that explores many of the same themes as the documentary THE PICKERS that inspired our campaign.

We met Slow Food Austria during the Meet THE PICKERS Tour to hear about the impact the documentary has had on their work.
Christina told us the film has motivated them to collaborate with other organisations to scrutinise how supply chain legislation is being implemented in Austria.
