These mornings
the coffee steam curls up
to twine with the smoke
from your morning cigarette
like you and I on New Years Day
in college on a friend's couch
pretending to be friends.

The hummingbirds chortle
dive bombing each other
with a possessive buzz
to wake us up from the work week
years of Saturdays spent
domesticating each other
finally comfortable with proximity.

Kit Steitz is a poet in Columbia, Missouri. They are a cofounder of a local lgbtqia+ writing workshop, and their poems most recently appeared in Moist Poetry Journal & Roi Faineant, with one forthcoming in Alocasia. Kit adores writing and reading a nice turn of phrase, disparate comparisons, flirty pronouns, queer joy, and poems about trees. They are currently exploring analog art poems and trying to catch up on their never-ending TBR shelf. They live with their polycule and herd of emotional support furbabies and don't leave their house unless bribed with food, roller skates, or the promise of getting lost in the woods for nebulous periods of time.

Stephanie Teasley is a writer based in Palm Springs, CA. Her work has appeared in publications such as Lunch Ticket, Cuisine Noir, HerAgenda, and NuOrigns. She enjoys shaping narratives that resonate with others and is currently a fellow in the Muses & Melanin Fellowship for creative writers. Stephanie is working on a collection of experimental, personal essays titled When Life Gives You Ragi, Make Boundaries. In her free time, she loves playing video games, embracing her Trekkie side, and spending quality time with her loved ones, both human and furry.
