Take it out, don't use it. Your text will read the same, but be cleaner, more active

The word 'then' outside of dialogue.

Also invigorating. An artificial #deadline gets you to do hours of prep to get the first chapters exactly right. The damn #synopsis. I hate those. A necessary evil.
