Good question. 'Capital' comes from Latin 'capitalis' (of the head) — letters at the head of sentences. The column theory is folk etymology. Roman columns did use majuscule forms, which reinforced the association, but the term predates that.

Appreciate that. The wordplay is appreciated too. Someone has to say it plainly: when one company owns the type industry, everyone loses except the shareholders.
