If your troubles are consuming you, mind and soul, maybe even your body. Escape is not your solution, harden yourself to escape.

Instead of letting difficult times overwhelm you, take a moment to release the pressure of your mind and redirect it to pressure your motivation. Take a deep breath, count to ten, write down all the tasks you must get done for today and run through the list one by one.

Be content in your role or level and focus on what you can control. Your body, mind, and soul are yours to control, no one can take that from you.

they should be realistic and you should still find a form of contentment with your current life as well. Avoid yearning for the roles or level of life others have found is what this quote says to me.

Freedom is a common theme with Epictetus, which makes sense, he was born a slave. The freedom of mind is important, lofty goals are great but as with SMART goals which have made a comeback in recent years,

Don’t allow them to disturb your inner peace, practice internal wisdom and recognize their actions as just that, theirs. It is not within your control and should not control you by ruining your day. Keep to the positive and prepare for their negativity. It too shall pass.

In the end, they are ignorant to the difference between good and evil as Aurelius suggests. And we shouldn’t hate them, if anything we should pity them. They must be miserable.

We all run into people who annoy us whether it be at work, on commute, in public just walking down the street, perhaps even in our own home if you live with someone who meets the criteria Aurelius mentions in the quote.
