Ok...3 eps in and it's growing on me. Script is still dumb as toast, and the writers are trying veeerrrrry hard to say something. But it also has a real sense of heart, when it wants to.

Thok is an absolute treat

I'm definitely keen to continue watching. At worst, it's a fun outting that brings some beautiful – albeit with Abrams-level flaring – visuals to a well-trodden genre. I'm hoping it'll mature and grow on me more as it finds its footing and audience.

...and oft-times insipid. I've heard it said that this show is aimed at younger audiences... but that says a lot about how out of touch Paramount may be. Afterall, SNW has a huge appeal among Gens Z/Alpha, and it does so with witty writing, fun plots and steering clear of trope and expo-dumping

What doesn't work? Omg, that script. This is a poster-child for a studio that has zero faith in its audience. Dialogue is jilted. Exposition: mind numbing. Everything is presented in a way that ensures viewers can follow along, no matter how much of their attention is elsewhere. It's just...dull

What's good about it? The characters are really interesting and, honestly, most of the performances behind them are solid. The art direction looks pristine, too. The 32nd century takes some wild swings, and looks damn good doing it.

Wealthy entitled brat gets angry at wealthy entitled family and starts a spat that affects no one outside of said entitled prats...and multiple news outlets think we all need to know?

Perhaps, we can all hope that he'll develop an obsession with deep sea exploration...

Yeah, wording gets a little wonky in there. Edit: first Canadian astronaut "to the moon"

Seems a little baity. Walk through London in a day and you'll see many people hawk gobs in public. Not a once have I ever seen someone fined for doing so. It's unfortunate that this man was nabbed...but really, slow news day?

On a scale of “deftly handled questions about consent" to “a strangely liminal Detroit” … this is “more effective than that one awkward high sex ed class”

I'm still stuck on the, what if ghost but STI line … but this is honestly a very good spooky movie

There's something super creepy about a monster that's just a person. Just a person acting just a little out of the ordinary. Smile gets it

On a scale of “the hellscape that 1990 thought 1997 would be” to “being too old for this shit” … this rates a “solid peak for both Bill Paxton and Danny Glover, in a movie that gets far more shade than it deserves”

"He's the hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne"

Danny Glover deserves more credit for his workout routine

This movie… bloody zoot suit riot…
November 2, 2025 at 10:20 AM
On a scale of “a giant metaphorical semi-automatic firearm in the sky” to “a slightly unsettling not-quite-Naruto-run” … this rates an “actually effective use of doorbell cam footage in a movie”
November 2, 2025 at 10:14 AM
The movie is also bloody brilliant. If you like a little horror with your mystery, you owe it to yourself to get this on your 2025 watchlist

How can you style Josh Brolin like the bog-standard “every-dude-in-a-smalltown” look, and he still comes out wearing that like “Rural Dad” is this season’s hottest look?

And now this has me terrified of any children running for no particular reason. Yes, I'm basically terrified of all children now
