Oh my god I think I remember that. Yeah there are some very toxic people that play shooters. Thankfully the devs started cracking down on what people say in chat and handing out bans heavily. There are a lot of content creators in the space that are good people though

I sort of remember Ghosts comp but I really dislike that game. To me it was the start of the CoD falloff until BO3 gave it one last bit of life. I mainly played Battlefield 4 that year instead because it was the PS4 launch year and the first time consoles got 64 player servers

Oh man that was the only year I was into comp. They still haven’t been able to make a ranked play mode as good as Black Ops 2 and I don’t understand why. Scump was the 🐐. That old Optic team was so fun to watch

People have definitely gotten better in general. I used to be the pubstomper. Big reason why SBMM made me quit.Modern CoD content creators are the WORST. It’s just so many dude bros that all share 1 brain cell and post clickbait. They can’t compare to the OG Youtube guys like Seananners, Tejbz, Xcal

All in all, I was decently surprised with the Black Ops 7 Beta and would consider giving the full game a chance since it will be on PC Game Pass, so long as they make the no SBMM playlists permanent or, what they SHOULD do, use the classic matchmaking in every playlist besides ranked.

Zombies I only played briefly on the one map we had for the beta and that was enough. Idk what they’re doing with zombies but it’s like they want it to be too much like Warzone. Zombies has lost its identity and I don’t see it reaching the peak of Black Ops 3 zombies again

Weapon balancing seems good. The M8 can be a little broken if you can consistently 1 burst, but the weapon is pretty inconsistent at that. No weapon really stood out as extremely broken. In the old days, Treyarch was always the dev that loved balance

I get that that might be due to their wall jumping gimmick, but like put some stuff on the walls. Make it look like a battle is happening jeez. This game still being released on PS4 and Xbox One for some reason also might be a factor due to hardware limitations. It’s 2025 let the last gen go already

Moving on to maps. The beta maps were alright I guess. 3 lane maps are what CoD perfected and they went away from that for some reason over the past 5 years. Glad to see them going back to that good map design with BO7. My issue is the maps all feel empty, like your in a box

This needs to be how ALL matchmaking is in public matches on the full release. All I’ve heard online is how much fun everybody is having when they can boot up the game and relax in this playlist instead of needing to snort G-Fuel and have a sweat bucket to compete.

What a night and day difference. The no SBMM playlists were actually…FUN??? It seriously felt like playing old CoD again. People just playing chill, not all using meta loadouts, just having FUN. Like THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR

On the first day of the Beta it just felt like more of the same and I barely lasted 5 games. But then day 2, Treyarch did what nobody expected, ADDING A PLAYLIST THAT SPECIFICALLY STATES IT HAS THE CLASSIC MATCHMAKING. NO SBMM!!!

In the Golden Age, everyone was terrible when they started. You got better by playing against a mix of people. Bad players to hone your skills, and good players to test your skills so you can find out how to be better. Under SBMM that doesn’t happen

With the matchmaking system they put in place starting with MW2019, every game feels like you’re up against prime BO2 OpTiC. People acting like they’re playing for $1 million in a public match. Every match a sweat fest, nobody had fun, nobody gets better because you’re playing clones of yourself

First the elephant in the room, skill based matchmaking. A system that should not exist in the public playlist. It never did in the Golden Age CoDs. You never knew what type of players you would be matched with so every match felt fresh.

Now on to BO7. Going in I had no hope. I watched the reveal trailer and felt no emotion. I wasn’t hyped. I wasn’t angry. I just did not care at all. The bar was on the floor, and that was honestly probably a good thing.

From EXTREMELY strict skill based matchmaking (or more so EOMM) in the public playlists, continuing the trend of $30 skin bundles, and a community that has grown ever more toxic (yes the alt-right pipeline is very present in the CoD content creator space 🤢) the games have been horrible for years

As anyone who has kept up with the series knows, these past 5 years have been an all time low and many including myself decided it was time to walk away. I still play the Betas every year hoping that they can capture the magic of the Golden Age…and they never do
