I look back on my journal and I am shocked at how I ignored so many signs.
The burnout.
The lack of good sleep.
The piles of unfolded laundry.
The amount of times I was breaking down into tears and hiding it from everyone.
I was not ok...
I had a panic attack last week... | Whitney Alese

When we stop paying attention, the administration wins & there is no one to stop them.
So, in essence, embracing helplessness only serves the continued harm.
But how do we keep paying attention? How do we keep fighting back when we are already so weary?

Where clean air, water, & soil are the norm?
Where everyone has access to nutritious foods?
Where medical & scientific advancement thrive?
Where diversity is a strength?
Where inclusion is normalized?
Where humanity is prioritized?

It is possible to dream for better while dismantling the worst.

What kind of nation do you want to live in?
Do you want to live where everyone can eat everyday?
Where everyone has access to a safe home?
Where everyone has access to affordable, high quality healthcare?
Where good education is a right?

While we are fighting against the things we do not want, we need to also free ourselves to dream about the things we DO want.

We are one of the most well resourced nations in the world and it’s not out of our reach to radically dream a better world while we fight for it.

You mean to tell me that a bunch of far right representatives heckled the previous President every chance they got BUT one senator moves to ask a question and he's thrown out of a conference, handcuffed, and now is being threatened with censure?

While some folks are denying the transatlantic slave trade, these Black divers go to wreckages to honor the lives of those trafficked & those lost along the way.

An estimated 12.5 million souls were trafficked on 10s of thousands of ships. 1.8 million died along the way.

Community doesn’t have to have a follower count.

Communication doesn’t always have to have a comment section.

For the sake of the community, some conversations cannot be held online.

They need to be held on stoops, on porches, & on park benches.

They need to be held in intentionally safe spaces, away from the gladiator matches & bad actors of the internet.

A reminder that Memorial Day is a Black holiday.“

The fact that the freed slaves’ Memorial Day tribute is not as well remembered is emblematic of the struggle that would follow, as African Americans’ fight to be fully recognized for their contributions to American society continues to this day.”
The Overlooked Black History of Memorial Day
Historians like the Pulitzer Prize winner David Blight have tried to raise awareness of freed slaves who decorated soldiers' graves in 1865
