Exactly though - opening up the whole stadium for Open Cup games isn't necessary, especially because the League has worked against it for 20 years lol.
Fixing it could look like a lot of things, but replacing it with a newer flashy cash grab tourney hurts the credibility of all involved imo.

Has a holder not competed the following year before? Like in /the good ole days/ did a team like, fold or otherwise have to cease operations in a year after they won The Cup?
