Sad state of affairs when it comes down to a 92 year old calling it out. But then again whether you liked him or not or disagreed with his politics at least Heseltine was what I'd call a proper politician & there's not many of those about now

Oh no the crops were more labour intensive back then! Mix of locals and then travelers from areas like Sheffield etc. They used to do say 3 weeks potato grading for us then move onto another farm for say Brussels sprout harvest etc

Totally agree it's too cheap. Someone though is still making a lot of money out of food somewhere and it sure isn't us growers! We do use a lot less chemicals now though. The job is certainly harder than it was 20 / 25 years ago

Partly yes. Years ago women would do a lot of that land work around school hours etc but society has changed & both parents need to work full time these days. Plus the constant drive to lower production costs means food production is a full on 7 day a week effort now

No I think some local towns they had it in their heads the Eastern European migrants had taken all their jobs....! But the only reason Eastern Europeans came over to do the jobs was because the locals didn't want to do them anymore!

There's a couple of really good hidden away independent places for food in Mablethorpe! (Actually might be closed for winter now!) Fully recommend the crumble place!

Broadwater house used to be where Levertons did the forklifts then opposite all the big equipment. Got some old Caterpillar crawlers from them in the back of a shed still! Had to get one out the other year when it didn't stop raining!

We like Holbeach, got everything we need (my other half is Polish & can what she needs Polish wise). I take some daffodils to Wisbech in springtime. Used to be a very prosperous place many years ago
