i think that would have made him feel like everything was gonna be okay. i think that’s what paul would have wanted him to know, too.

if only he knew that even though it would always physically feel like a piece of him was missing, he’d have so much love in his life that a lot of that would get filled up; not all of it, but a lot of it.

if only he knew that everything he’ll do in his life, from how he parents to what he does in his career, would be for paul.

today in my daily meditation i thought about 6-year-old dom and i told him i loved him. i sent him peace in the midst of difficulty. he was in so much pain for so long. if only he knew that one day he’d think of his brother and smile instead of cry, even though it took a while.

when i was 6 years old, i woke up on september 2nd and found my triplet brother paul — my best friend since we shared a womb and truly one of my soulmates in life — had died in his sleep. 28 years later, there has never been a single day since that i haven’t thought about him.

I didn’t actually believe it was true but for a brief moment I had this feeling. It was kind of like the moment I experienced love at first sight. Butterflies fluttering. A clear vision of the future. A warmth like a long hug in the bitter cold of winter. What was this feeling? It was hope.

For @teenvogue.com, I wrote about America’s favorite bipartisan pastime: starving people at home and abroad. As officials confirm what we already know, that there is a famine in Gaza, I hope we can all remember that none of this is unavoidable. It is a choice.
