Co-host of A Blast From the Past
If you're not familiar with Bob Rivers, he had several comedy parody albums in the 80s and 90s. "The 12 Pains of Christmas" is probably his best known Xmas tune, but I found "Wreck the Malls" funny and a reminder of the Xmas chaos of the malls in the 80s. #abftp

A request by Mrs. The Todd for her favorite Xmas time - the duet of David Bowie and Bing Crosby's "Peace on Earth/little Drummer Boy".

The "Peace on Earth"prob was written for the TV show because Bowie refused to sing "Little Drummer Boy". #abftp

I should go find the picture of Jason as Mr. Heatmiser. He is a really good Heatmiser.

I can't believe I did not find Big Bag Voodoo Daddy's swing version of "Mr. Heatmiser" until last week. #abftp

You can't really top the original "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" by Thurl Ravencroft, but Darius Rucker's version from 2014 is a nice, updated version of the song. It's also a family affair as his kids are part of the background vocals.

"Christmas Day" is not your typical Christmas song. A modern-day telling of Mary, Joseph and the birth of Jesus, it's not something you can really hum along with but it's quirky and fun.

The most recent song on the show tonight, from 2022. Per Gessle and PG Roxette with "Wishing You the Best for Xmas". Love that he put the band back together and is touring again.

We kick off our #Xmas show for A Blast From the Past with the Eurythmics "Winter Wonderland", my favorite version of the song. And we follow that with my favorite Christmas song "Linus and Lucy" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.

The video for Madness's song "Night Boat to Cairo" was scrambled together very quickly and looks liked it was a high school project that was thrown together at the last minute...with lots of alcohol involved. 🤣 Give it a watch and enjoy! #abftp

One of the parts of A Blast From the Past I have loved is digging up those obscure and forgotten songs. The Escape Club's "Walking Through Walls" was a minor hit but I don't remember hearing it when came out.

Maybe you remember it or maybe this is the first time hearing it.

I love the video for the Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly". The band members play multiple parts and we get cameos from Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D. #abftp

I had a hard debate between playing Queen's "I'm in Love with My Car" and "Bicycle Race". I went with "I'm in Love with My Car" because I wanted to play a lesser heard song and I think it is great that drummer Roger Taylor wrote and sung the song.

The "Love Boat" theme song that was released as a single is not quite as good as the theme that opened and closed the show. It is very much more disco-y.

I hadn't heard Holly Johnson's "Love Train" prior to this week. It is a really good song and should have done better than it's #65 in the US. However, by 1989, I can see how this would have faired much better in 1987 if he could have released it back then.

Styx's "Boat on the River" is a great album cut that features Tommy Shaw on mandolin, Dennis DeYoung on accordion and Chuck Panozzo on a board double bass. A fun song you should listen to more often!

My mom really loved the Monkees. I enjoyed watching the reruns on Channel 40 back in the day and on Nickelodeon.

"Last Train to Clarksville" was on of her favorite songs and it was fun to play it on the show tonight.

We kick things off with Billy Ocean and "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car".

Planning my next show on A Blast From the Past. My theme will be Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and all things transportation).

Give me a song suggestion with plane, train, car, bike, walk, run, etc. and it might end up on the show!

Another British band on the show, this time it's Heaven 17. The English synth-pop band from Sheffield formed in 1980.

"Let Me Go" was their biggest hit in the US, parking at #74 on the Hot 100 chart. However, they had 3 Top 10 guys in the UK

999's "Homicide" was a song request by listener Tom. I'm always happy to play a song request from listeners. Sometimes it may take a bit to play them, tho. 😁

I've always loved Timbuk 3's "My Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades". I like the mix of peppy and upbeat music (and the harmonica) mixed with the lyrics about the pending nuclear Holocaust and the need for shades to protect from the blast.
